Daniel is a book of the Ketuvim combining court narratives of a Jewish youth serving in Babylon with apocalyptic visions of world history and the end of days. Though set in the sixth century BCE, its symbolic visions of four kingdoms and the messianic Son of Man became foundational to Jewish apocalyptic thought.
