כֹּ֣ל הַקָּרֵ֧ב ׀ הַקָּרֵ֛ב אֶל־מִשְׁכַּ֥ן יְהֹוָ֖ה יָמ֑וּת הַאִ֥ם תַּ֖מְנוּ לִגְוֺֽעַ׃ {ס}        

Every one that cometh near, that cometh near unto the tabernacle of the LORD, is to die; shall we wholly perish?’

כל הקרב הקרב וגו'. אֵין אָנוּ יְכוֹלִין לִהְיוֹת זְהִירִין בְּכָךְ, כֻּלָּנוּ רַשָּׁאִין לְהִכָּנֵס לַחֲצַר אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד, וְאֶחָד שֶׁיַּקְרִיב עַצְמוֹ יוֹתֵר מֵחֲבֵרוֹ וְיִכָּנֵס לְתוֹךְ אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד יָמוּת: האם תמנו לגוע. שֶׁמָּא הֻפְקַרְנוּ לְמִיתָה?:

כל הקרב הקרב וגו׳ WHOSOEVER APPROACHETH [UNTO THE DWELLING OF THE LORD SHALL DIE] — The meaning is: “We cannot be cautious enough in this matter: we are all of us allowed to enter into the court of the appointed tent, but one who betakes himself nearer than his fellow and goes into the appointed tent itself will die! האם תמנו לגוע means are we perhaps constantly to be freely exposed to the danger of death?
