Yitro covers Exodus 18:1–20:23, named for Moses's father-in-law Jethro (Yitro), who visits the Israelite camp and advises Moses to delegate judicial authority. The climax of this portion is the revelation at Sinai and the giving of the Ten Commandments (Aseret HaDibrot), the foundational law of the Jewish covenant.
