Va'etchanan covers Deuteronomy 3:23–7:11, containing Moses's prayer to enter Canaan (refused by God) and his exhortation to Israel to keep the Torah. It includes the second giving of the Ten Commandments and the Shema, the central declaration of Jewish faith: 'Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One.'
