Exodus 23:29
JPS-1917לֹ֧א אֲגָרְשֶׁ֛נּוּ מִפָּנֶ֖יךָ בְּשָׁנָ֣ה אֶחָ֑ת פֶּן־תִּהְיֶ֤ה הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ שְׁמָמָ֔ה וְרַבָּ֥ה עָלֶ֖יךָ חַיַּ֥ת הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃
I will not drive them out from before thee in one year, lest the land become desolate, and the beasts of the field multiply against thee.

שממה. רֵקָנִית מִבְּנֵי אָדָם, לְפִי שֶׁאַתֶּם מְעַט וְאֵין בָּכֶם כְּדֵי לְמַלֹּאות אוֹתָהּ:
ורבה עליך. וְתִרְבֶּה עָלֶיךָ:
שממה DESOLATE — empty of human beings, for you are but few and not sufficient to fill it all up. ורבה עליך means, [LEST THE ANIMALS OF THE FIELD] MULTIPLY AGAINST THEE.
